Pastitsio (Greek Lasagna)

I have to be honest this is so much better, than lasagna. My opinion of course, plus my family members but please try it


Meat sauce:

Minced beef good quality-600g

Onions-2 chopped

Garlic -4 cloves chopped

Tomato paste-1.5 tablespoon

Can of tomatoes-1

Smoked paprika, black pepper-1 teaspoon each

Béchamel sauce:


Flour-3 tablespoons

Butter- 3 tablespoons

Pasta Sita- 1.5 packets

Eggs-3 bitten

Cheese- 300 g grated.cheddar is good


Start with preparing a meat sauce.

Heat an oil in a pan, cook onion add garlic, spices. Add minced meat, stir well and cook till water evaporates. Stir in tomato paste. Add a can of tomatoes. Cook till the sauce is ready, around 10-15 min on a medium heat, stir frequently.

In a reasonably large pot heat butter, add flour and very quickly stir in with a whisk on a moderate heat. Gradually add milk in potions whilst stirring. When all milk has been added and sauce is thick. Take of the fire.

Cook pasta as per instructions. When ready rinse under cold water let it. Cool and mix with bitten eggs and set aside.

Now, let’s start assembling.

Oil thoroughly large lasagna dish , add half of the pasta mixture.

Top it with grated cheese.

Add meat mixture, spread well and top it with cheese.

Add the remaining pasta.

Now, pour all the Béchamel sauce, grate cheese on top.

Cook in preheated oven at 170C for 45 minutes.

Top needs to be nicely browned.
